Tipu's Tiger in Jasmine (Light)

£200.00

Tipu's Tiger is an eighteenth-century mechanical toy created for Tipu Sultan, the ruler of the Kingdom of Mysore in India. The hand carved wooden toy / musical instrument depicts a ferocious tiger, the emblem of the Tipu Sultan, mauling his enemy a European soldier.

I've always been fascinated by this, almost life size, classic and it has inspired my latest print. The tiger as seen through the eyes of the soldier seconds before the attack.

You can see Tipu's Tiger at the Victoria & Albert museum in London.
